Few fish are surrounded by such mystique as the pike. Tales are told of pike that have grabbed dogs swimming in the water, that have bitten the toes of swimmers, and of pike that love to lurk in the reeds!
Some of the stories are true: for example the pike really does take seabirds when it can, and it can often be found in the reeds, and it really is a savage predator that eats everything it can; but it leaves alone both people and dogs.
In the forests of Norrbotten, just an hour our way from Luleå, there is pike fishing unlike any other angling that most people have ever experienced.

Trophy pike
We make our way to the River Råne or Lule to try to entice Sweden's biggest, but wiliest pike.
On a single guided trip in spring 2002, 23 pike were landed, the smallest weighing 5.6 kilos and the biggest 11.6 kilos (126 cm) - all in one day.
